Why Christianity? |
Because it is true! |
First, I recognize that there is absolute truth [see True and False]. The universe does not exist so that we can believe whatever we choose. It exists in a certain way, whether we like it or not. Relativism is just another way of our accepting a falsehood and making us feel better about it; it doesn't change truth, it just hides the real truth. |
So, second, I look for what is true. I will not attempt to argue the point to convince you of that which is true, but only point to such arguments. Others have written far better than I can that Christianity is true. |
Lee Strobel author of The Case for Christ and other similar book titles set out to prove that Christianity was false, but found overwhelming proof to the opposite. Likewise, C.S. Lewis went from atheist to Christian when he looked seriously at the available evidence. He went on to write such books as Mere Christianity and a child (and adult) favorite series The Chronicles of Narnia. I could continue the name dropping; if you are interested then do your own search. |
My point is simple. If one truly looks for the truth, one can find it. "Seek and you will find." [Matthew 7:7; Luke 11:9] |
As I read the Bible, and I have done so for decades, I continue to find that what it says makes sense. Being a Christian does not mean to no longer think. Reason and faith go together; they are not polar opposites as some would have you think. |
I see so often ills of our society and culture right there in the Bible's pages. As the author of Ecclesiastes says, "there is nothing new under the sun." [Ecclesiastes 1:9] But, the wonderful thing is that it is not just the problem that is pointed out, but also the solution. The Bible tells us what we can, and should, do to make things better. |
I, left to do my own thing, would be no different than the rest of the world. But, I am not left alone. Jesus paid the price through his death, and he sent the Spirit to dwell in me. That is the free gift he offers: love, freedom, life, forgiveness, and so much more. |
Assume that I hold out my hand with a gift for you, say dollar bill. If you have turned your back and are walking away, can you accept the free gift I offer? Can you get the dollar? In order to do so you must turn around and accept the gift. |
Jesus has the most valuable gift for each of us. But, we must accept it. If we have our back turned and are walking away, we cannot benefit from the gift. However, if we will turn around, it is ours. |
Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." [John 14:6] |
Now, that's the truth! |
