The Lord's Prayer |
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.† |
There are many translations/versions of this prayer, but all are derived directly or indirectly from Matthew 6:9-13: |
This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."†† |
There is also a shorter version in Luke 11:2-4. We have chosen the wording we are most familiar with having been raised in Lutheran churches. |
