| Instructions on Import | |
| Data may be imported from a SEIMS generated report containing the list of all contests and candidates for the election. Use the following process: | |
| 1. | Complete the main page (Step 1 of 3) as normal. Note in particular that if the election is a primary then the Party Primary check box should be checked and the desired party selected. |
| 2. | Click the "Browse" button. This will display a file open dialog. |
| 3. |
Locate and select the appropriate "ESS_CANDIDATE_..." report (click here for instructions on generating this report.) Click the "Open" button. This will return focus to the main page. |
| 4. | Click the "Import" button. This will display the Import Election Definition edit form (Step 2 of 3) listing the records imported from the data file. |
| 5. | Select any records displayed that should be removed and click the "Delete" button. Multiple records may be selected (using normal shift and ctrl modifier keyboard keys); all selected records will be removed upon clicking the "Delete" button. |
| 6. | Click the "Run" button. This will display the report form (Step 3 of 3). |
| Special cases that may require additional editing of the imported data include the following: | |
| Write-In Candidates: | To add write-in candidates, follow the procedure above. Ignore the generated report. Press the "Done" button. This will display the Manual Election Definition edit form (Step 2 of 3) listing all the candidates for all contests. Add a write-in candidate line; click here for more information. Then click the "Run" button to redisplay the the report form (Step 3 of 3) containing the write-in candidate. |
| Ballot Questions: | To add ballot questions, follow a procedure similar to that used to add write-in candidates given above, however, add a contest with the question as the contest name and under it add candidates for each question answer. Click here for more information. |
| An alternative to the above procedures is to edit directly the "ESS_CANDIDATE_..." report to add the write-in candidates and ballot questions. This may be desirable if you find that you are repeatedly importing from the same file. Click here for file format details. | |
