An American Family is the long awaited (at least by us) revision of The Expanded Blue Book. In 2005 when we made the compilation, it was our intent to check for errors, make minor upgrades, and reprint it, making it available to all our extended family. Unfortunately, as is often the case, life happens. Ten years later and we are still planning, and working towards, that reprint. In the process, we renamed the effort to An American Family, a recognition of the diversity and breadth of the family scattered across the American landscape from coast to coast through the centuries.
One of the major activities over the past several years has been to better document all facts. Alternatively, one could say we are working at documenting in the database all facts derived from each source. This is the major advance over The Expanded Blue Book. Where we find sources missing, we are attempting to locate suitable references.
Comparing to the original publication, The Blue Book, the differences are huge! That first book is a part of Volume 3 of An American Family. As with The Expanded Blue Book, our efforts have expanded to include all our grandparents families, with a token nod to our daughter's husband's family.
The introduction, references, and indices in Volume 1 apply to the remaining 5 volumes as well. This volume contains the common material, including the nomenclature used for individuals and references, as these are unique to our work.
It is expected that each volume will be printed in multiple parts, as to attempt to print the material in a single book will likely result in too large a book to be practical.
